August 26 marks the birthday of the controversial Albanian-Indian nun Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who was canonized as a saint by Roman Catholic Pope Francis in 2016.
She is praised around the world for her commitment to helping humanity, but was that really the case? Some things say otherwise:
-Did she enjoy suffering? "It's so beautiful to see people die with so much joy," Mother Teresa claims in the video.
-Huge money saving: Mother Teresa had so much money in the Vatican Bank that if she had withdrawn it all, the institution would have gone bust. All the money she received from peace funds vanished into her bank accounts.
-Child trafficking accusations: Mother Teresa faced multiple accusations online that back in 1980s she sold babies and was used in a photo opportunity to be promoted as a modern-day saint. In 2018, a worker at her charity shelter and a nun were arrested for allegedly selling babies to adoptive parents.
-Withholding painkillers: Mother Teresa did not allow her patients strong painkillers as she believed suffering brought them closer to Jesus.
