Gross National Happiness

The GNH concept has inspired a modern political happiness movement. Through the contribution of several western and eastern scholars, economists and politicians, the concept evolved into a socioeconomic development model. In July 2011, the United Nations passed Resolution 65/309, that was adopted unanimously by the General Assembly in July 2011, placing "happiness" on the global development agenda.

The four pillars of GNH philosophy:

-Sustainable development

-Preservation and promotion of cultural values

-Conservation of the natural environment, and

-Establishment of good governance.

The GNH concept evolved through the contribution of international scholars and researchers to become a socioeconomic development framework. The GNH policy now serves as a unifying vision for Bhutan's five-year planning process and all the derived planning documents that guide the economic and development plans of the country. Proposed policies in Bhutan must pass a GNH review based on a GNH impact statement that is similar in nature to the Environmental Impact Statement required for development in the U.S.

Quantitative and qualitative indicators

While the Gross National Happiness was an inspirational philosophy, the implementation of a GNH policy was challenging in Bhutan due to the political transformation of the country and the overemphasis on the spiritual and cultural aspects of GNH over economic development. Like many psychological and social indicators, GNH is somewhat easier to state than to define with mathematical precision. For more than thirty years, the GNH concept struggled to be accepted by policy makers and economists outside Bhutan due the subjective nature of happiness, the lack of a policy implementation framework and economic measurement system.

Although there were few ad-hoc and independent surveys that attempted to measure the happiness or life satisfaction as a subjective score, up to 2005 there was no exact quantitative definition of GNH, but only some studies of individual elements that contribute to GNH are subject to quantitative measurement. For instance, low rates of infant mortality correlate positively with subjective expressions of well-being or happiness within a country. The practice of social science has long been directed toward transforming subjective expression of large numbers of people into meaningful quantitative data.

History and associated movement

In 1972, Bhutan's King introduced the Gross National Happiness (GNH) philosophy and its four development pillars at an international conference.

In 2005, Med Jones, the president of International Institute of Management, proposed a second generation GNH (GNH 2.0) also known as Gross National Well-being or GNW, the first GNW / GNH Index and the first Global GNW / GNH Index Survey. The proposal served as a blueprint for the later well-being development frameworks and happiness econometric models.

In 2006, the Genuine Progress Indicator was updated from a green measurement system to a broader concept that included quantitative measurement of well-being and happiness. The new measure is motivated by the philosophy of the GNH and the same notion of that subjective measures like well-being are more relevant and important than more objective measures like consumption. It is not measured directly, but only the factors which are believed to lead to it. In 2006, the International Institute of Management published a policy white paper calling for the implementation of GNH philosophy in the US and inviting scholars to build upon the GNW/ GNH Index framework.

In 2007, Thailand released Green and Happiness Index (GHI). In 2009 in the United States, the Gallup poll system launched the happiness survey collecting data on a national scale. The Gallup Well-Being Index was modeled after the GNH Index framework of 2005. The Well-Being Index score is an average of six sub-indexes that measures life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behaviors, and access to basic necessities. In October 2009, the USA scored 66.1/100. In 2010, the concept was taken seriously, as the Centre for Bhutan Studies developed a sophisticated survey instrument to measure the population's general level of well-being under the leadership of Karma Ura (ja). Two Canadians, Michael and Martha Pennock played a major role in developing the Bhutanese survey, which took a six- to seven-hour interview to complete. They developed a shorter international version of the survey which has been used in their home region of Victoria BC as well as in Brazil. The Pennocks also collaborated with Ura in the production of a policy lens which is used by the Bhutanese GNH Commission for anticipating the impact of policy initiatives upon the levels of GNH in Bhutan.

Later the same year, the Center for Bhutan Studies further defined the original four pillars with greater specificity into eight general contributors to happiness—physical, mental and spiritual health; time-balance; social and community vitality; cultural vitality; education; living standards; good governance; and ecological vitality. The Bhutan GNH Index. In 2010, The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative OPHI at the University of Oxford in UK, launched the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) for the United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP). Similar to the GNH Index of 2005, OPHI promotes collection and analysis of data on five dimensions including Quality of work, Empowerment, Physical safety, Ability to go about without shame, Psychological wellbeing. In 2011 UN General Assembly Resolution 65/309, titled "Happiness: towards a holistic approach to development".

In 2011, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) launched "Better Life Index" (BLI). In 2011 The United Nations released the World Happiness Report by Helliwell, John F., Richard Layard, and Jeffrey Sachs. In 2011 Canadian Index of Wellbeing Network (CIW Network) releases The Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW). In 2011, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz published an article suggesting that western GDP economics is an incomplete development model and called for the adoption of Bhutan's GNH philosophy and Jones' GNH Index in Israel.

In 2012, a report prepared for the US Congressman Hansen Clarke, R, Researchers Ben, Beachy and Juston Zorn, at John F. Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University, recommended that "the Congress should prescribe the broad parameters of new, carefully designed supplemental national indicators; it should launch a bipartisan commission of experts to address unresolved methodological issues, and include alternative indicators." They proposed that the government can use the survey results to see which well-being dimensions are least satisfied and which districts and demographic groups are most deficient, so as to allocate resources accordingly. The report list the Gross National Happiness Index and its seven measurement area as one of the main frameworks to consider.

In 2012, Peter T. Coleman, the director of the International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia University, suggested that Jones' GNH Index initiative could inform the Global Peace Index Initiative GPI. In 2012, South Korea launched Happiness Index citing the GNH Index framework. In 2012, the Government of Goa, India published a strategy for socioeconomic development citing the GNH Index as a model for measuring happiness.

In 2012, the city of Seattle in Washington, launched its own happiness index initiative, emphasizing measures similar to the GNH Index. In 2013, the Social Progress Index SPI was launched by Michael Porter. In 2014, the government of Dubai launched its localized Happiness Index to measure the public's contentment and satisfaction with different government services. Finally, in 2014, The United Kingdom launched its own well-being and happiness statistics.

According to Daniel Kahneman, a Princeton University Economist, happiness can be measured using the day reconstruction method, which consists in recollecting memories of the previous working day by writing a short diary.[26]

Adam Kramer, a psychologist from the University of Oregon, has developed a behavioral model of "Gross National Happiness" based on the use of positive and negative words in social network status updates, resulting in a quantitative GNH metric.

In a widely cited study, "A Global Projection of Subjective Well-being: A Challenge to Positive Psychology?" by Adrian G. White of the University of Leicester in 2007, Bhutan ranked eighth out of 178 countries in Subjective Well-Being. In fact, it is the only country in the top 20 "happiest" countries that has a very low GDP.

National happiness is also sometimes classified under empirically studied "National Happyism," and psychologists, Drs. Ed Diener and Robert Biswas-Diener, have researched and analyzed what could be described as technological elements and characteristics of happiness for both individuals and societies.

Why Hoard? Like Blood, Money Should Circulate

A society that condemns wealth will invariably become dishonest. Why the businessman of India is not productive? India has been condemning wealth for thousands of years. It has been saying that money is useless, money is dirt. But money is very meaningful, very useful. In life, money is a great medium of change, exchange, usage. Interestingly, saints who oppose wealth are nurtured by the wealthy businessmen of India. And remember, the businessman will respect that very saint who opposes wealth.

Being creative asks for hard work; it asks for long term thinking, genius, lifelong perseverance. Then, in the end, wealth can be produced.

Wealth should be coveted, but coveting it means being creative: how we can produce wealth? But no one talks about producing because who will toil over a long period of time? Actually a society has to be such in which being honest should not seem to be an austere discipline, instead being dishonest and corrupt should seem to be an austere discipline.

The rich people of India, accumulate, they hoard wealth, they don't enjoy it.Why? Because we are taught: Simple living, high thinking. This is nonsense. The truth is: High living, high thinking.

And let me tell you that the society that produces hoarders, becomes rotten.People who can enjoy the wealth are needed: who spend the money, spread it, not hoard it. But India accumulates wealth. An Indian makes money so that it can be locked in the vaults. And the rich man lives like a pauper.People praise him that he is a great man. This kind of man is a danger to society because the money that is stored in the vault becomes useless for society. It is exactly like the blood circulating in the hands or feet getting blocked somewhere. As long as the blood is circulating in the body...the more it circulates the more the person remains young; the more easily, without any obstacles does it flow, the more the person will be strong. The body becomes paralysed wherever the blood circulation is blocked. The Indian businessman earns money and locks it in the safe. It becomes paralysed.

Money is like blood, it should circulate. The rupee is alive when it is moving, running. That society becomes richer and richer in which money circulates faster.

Right now we don't store air in our vaults but in the ture if air is in short supply we near future if air is in short supply we will start storing it in our vaults. I say to you that the world will become non-possessive if there is as much wealth in the world as there is air. And there can be more wealth than air.Technology has made it easy for us.And there is no need for any society to be poor except for unintelligent societies.

The day wealth will be available in plenty, the world will be free of the desire for wealth ­ a great revolution for spirituality! The moment man is liberated from money his mind will start moving towards religiousness.

I want to tell you the last thing.

Produce so much wealth that the society becomes free of wealth. Produce so much wealth that for wealth no one has to be dishonest ­ no theft, black marketing and corruption.

Produce so much wealth that wealth loses meaning.

Donald Trump Is The Mirror And Hillary Clinton Is The Mask

Disclaimer: I do not support Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton for president. I think the scope of the political debate is far too narrow for the kinds of actions that need to take place to prevent the extinction of most of the life on earth, including human beings. Stepping outside this narrow debate enables me to take a more objective stance when watching the circus that stands for presidential elections in America these days.

Self-identified liberals around the country have been in a state of shock and disbelief over the presidential candidacy of Donald Trump.

“Oh my God! Did you see what he said? How could he actually be running for president?”

The problem is that the latter question is often a rhetorical one. Very little effort, if any, is spent trying to understand how such a !@$#%^& actually won the Republican nomination. But the truth is there is something rotten at the core of America, and Donald Trump is unknowingly trying to force us to look at it. Donald Trump is the mirror that we don’t want to look into.

Donald Trump Reflects Back To Us A Predatory Capitalist System Gone Horribly Wrong

Yes, there is a little piece of Donald Trump within all of us. It is the part of ourselves that we loathe and, therefore, want to rebuke and distance ourselves from. Many want to hide behind a new language of political correctness. We don’t want to understand how Donald Trump rose to such heights because the reason for it scares us. What scares us most is how much we actually share in common with the man.

Donald Trump is a product of a predatory capitalist system gone horribly wrong. Yes, Donald Trump is misogynistic, but look at the way business of all kinds use half-naked woman to sell products and services. Yes, Donald Trump doesn’t care about anything but American interests, but neither does any American who condones the government spending trillions of dollars exporting war and chaos on to the rest of the world. Yes, Donald Trump doesn’t care about climate change, but neither does our economic system that only allows people to meet their needs through unsustainable products like factory farmed meat and Walmart. Yes, Donald Trump is an egomaniac that only cares about himself, but so is any American who believes in the idea of American exceptionalism, that Americans are somehow more special than the rest of the world.

I’m not trying to insult anyone or blame anyone for being this way. The truth is to function well in this predatory capitalist system gone horribly wrong, one must develop, or at the very least tolerate, many of these views. Do you call out every misogynistic comment in the workplace? Calling out your boss for his misogynistic comments may cost you your job. Do you make the attempt to understand the needs and concerns of our so-called “enemies?” Probably not because doing so might have others label you a “terrorist sympathizer.” Are you making the necessary lifestyle changes and/or sacrifices required to reduce your carbon footprint, passing on that Hawaiian vacation to avoid the carbon emissions? It is one thing to believe in climate change and quite another to actually find out what you can do about it.

Donald Trump is not an isolated case for the values we despise.

The System Forces Us To Behave This Way

But it really isn’t our fault. This predatory capitalist system gone horribly wrong requires its participants to some degree to act predatory, or at least enforce inhumane practices. Imagine you work at a sandwich shop. You sell hundreds of sandwiches every day and then one homeless and hungry man walks into the shop and asks if there is any way you can make him a sandwich even though he has no money. Here you are standing in a store surrounded by an abundance of sandwiches, so much abundance that every week you have to throw out a portion of the unsold food, and you have a high probability of losing your job if you gave the hungry man a sandwich.

It feels unnatural at every level of our being to deny access to food to someone in need of it, or deny access to medicine to those unable to pay for it, essentially telling people that you don’t deserve to live unless you are able to play a role in our economy focusing almost entirely on selling product. Anyone working at the intersection of Capitalism Road and People Avenue have to face this feeling daily. Some of us grow thick skin and create narratives that justify this systemic denial of physical and emotional needs, while others must find some other kind of coping mechanism, which can easily turn into an addiction to alcohol, drugs, shopping, or anything else that can get our minds off of this feeling.

Do you ever feel like what your mind is telling you to do and what your heart is telling you to do is ripping you apart at the seams?

If Donald Trump Is The Mirror, Then Hillary Clinton Is The Mask

Donald Trump is a mirror of these values, reflecting back to us the extreme version of this predatory capitalist system gone horribly wrong, providing us with an opportunity to look deep within the roots of it. But if Donald Trump is the mirror we don’t want to look into, then Hillary Clinton offers us the mask we put on to avoid seeing our reflection. She tells us that we are already great, repeating tired old mantras of American exceptionalism that help the majority of people to feel more powerful and overlook the daily atrocities committed both at home and overseas in our name.

Clinton tells us there is no need to look into that mirror, that there is nothing wrong with our economic system and the problem is a result of bad characters like Donald Trump. Nothing could be further from the truth. For decades now, American politics have operated in a realm of its own with a completely different set of logic and procedures than the rest of the world. That’s because a predatory capitalist system gone horribly wrong requires a different set of logic to maintain it. Common sense actions, such as using the precautionary principle in both the public and private sectors, are disregarded as politically infeasible because they challenge the money interests of a capitalist class. This class of billionaires have gotten extraordinarily proficient at using their wealth to compromise government to maintain their control and unrivaled access to everything the world has to offer. Agricultural subsidy practices, militarization, spying on citizens, imprisoning non-violent crimes like drug use, arming rebel groups, supporting oppressive regimes: all of these actions defy common sense if our goal is to promote peace and prosperity as Clinton’s narrative tells us and are deemed not only necessary, but logical in the realm of American politics.

Hillary Clinton enables people to live in the fantasy that America is a force for peace in the world.

Where Is The Truth?

More than ever, both liberals and conservatives know that their government has been bought by corporations and the elite who have essentially legalized corruption and rigged the entire economy to favor a small minority. The people are beginning to wake up to the increasing gap between what politicians say they will support and what they actually do support. As Hillary Clinton said in a recently released WikiLeaks e-mail, “You need to have a public position and a private position on every issue,” essentially saying that she wears one mask when she speaks to the people and a different mask when she talks to the business interests that fund her campaign. Let the truth be damned.

Americans want to think they are the good guys. But are we? We like this feel good narrative. But if we really looked at what role we play in the world, are we more like Luke Skywalker and the rebels or Darth Vader and the evil empire? For the longest time, American political leaders have been telling us that “we are the good guys,” that “we stand for promoting freedom and democracy around the world,” that “we stand up against injustice.” But the values ofpredatory capitalist system gone horribly wrong are the antithesis of these ideals and Donald Trump is doing us all a favor by showing us our own reflection. If we resist the desire to put on that mask and instead allow ourselves to look in the mirror and see our economic system as what it really is – a planetary death star hellbent on converting all of the natural world into a gigantic pile of money – perhaps we have a small chance to realign our values with our actions and create a new kind of economics that allows all beings in the world a chance for peace and prosperity.

Why only the Rupee falls? Why should it fall close to 20% of its value? Why should this fall coincide with the passing of FDI bill when investors are lined up to bring dollars into India? Does this Rupee fall has anything to do with the rise of prices (inflation)? Or this fall in rupee is a direct result of domestic inflation which government and economists want us to believe in the range of 5% to 11%? Is this domestic inflation? Is what is being told to us correct or is Government of India manipulating this? What is the theory behind inflation? What is the theory behind exchange rates? What is their association with domestic or international inflation? When US and European economies are collapsing at a faster rate and Indian economy is stable; still why Rupee is falling rather than increase in value or appreciate? Why when unemployment is touching close to 10% in US and Europe and when many of those nationals are coming and seeking employment in India (for instance many foreign nationals working in Bollywood as extra actors, as the money they make in Mumbai gives them comfortable living) still why it is only the Indian Rupee that falls? Who is manipulating Rupee? RBI, Finance Ministry or the western governments putting developmental pressure on Indian government to manipulate Indian Rupee or economy for their benefits? Who are those western manipulators? Can’t we avoid them to save our finances?

De Beers’ 450 Year Hunt For The Hidden Treasures Of Indian Kingdoms

This excerpt from The Hunt For The Treasure Of Vijayanagara Empire details the centuries old plan of the East India Company to loot the hidden treasures of the Indian kingdoms.

A massive eviction of tribals is taking place in the State of Andhra Pradesh from the virgin forests of Nallamala range for the exclusive benefits of De Beers, a diamond mining corporation that wants the kimberlite or diamonds from the forest. But that is not the only thing De Beers is after. What De Beers is after is the buried wealth of Vijayanagara Empire to be hauled permanently into western fold. The efforts of De Beers started at least 13 years ago when it was told to us that “they realized the massive diamond, gold and granite deposits in Mehaboob Nagar and Kurnool districts of Andhra Pradesh”. These deposits are spread under the thick jungles of Nallamala forests. These forests needed to be cleared first for the diamond mining or De Beers should have to resort to the latest technology called horizontal drilling under the forests. Fortunately, or unfortunately, this forcible eviction was stopped when the state government that wanted to promote this was voted out of power.

Now here comes the kicker.

East India Companies when they ruled India tried to locate these kimberlite mines and declared that they were all exhausted and thus shifted their focus to South Africa. In South Africa they found diamonds and set up African gold and diamond mining companies under the ruthless exploitative ownership of Oppenheimers, who were one of the owners of the East India Companies. De Beers is also one of the East India Companies owned by these Houses of Rhodes and Oppenheimers.

It is these Nallamala diamond mines that were the source of the riches of all the kingdoms of India including the Vijayanagara Kingdom, which at its height sold diamonds on streets not in carats but in kilograms. This fact was recorded by Portuguese, Russian, French and other chroniclers who had business and diplomatic ties with Vijayanagara Kingdom.

Every crown jewel of every European kingdom in those days came from India and from these mines along the banks of Krishna or Tungabhadra rivers. World famous diamonds like Kohinoor, Hope, French crown jewels all came from these mines in Krishna river as it winds through the expansive Vijayanagara Kingdom through the Nallamala forest reserves. As this reserve was empty of all diamonds and gold as a result of mining over centuries by many kingdoms, the British never exploited these forest reserves. Otherwise all Chenchus (tribals living in these forests) would have been dead by now and all diamonds and gold looted by this time till the last diamond and ounce of gold was exploited from these Nallamala areas. India would never have got her independence as South Africa never got till all her diamonds and gold were exploited to the last carat and ounce.

So, where are these diamonds and gold these people are talking about if these kimberlite mines were exhausted couple of hundreds of years back? And why every central mining minster states in parliament that India has no technology to exploit these resources and that is why we have to call MNCs to do the job? Even for IT and Computers, India never had expertise. In a matter of a decade we now are leading in IT and computer field. How difficult is it to set up education in mining in India to train and prepare thousands of engineers in a span of 5 years? Why are we waiting from 1990 until 2016, for 26 years without setting up mining colleges or training Indian students to do the job?

Is it only to hand over the same resources to De Beers or other companies? Was there a tacit agreement across all political parties that for some return (read kickbacks or in normal Englishbribes) these non-existing or exhausted diamond and gold mines should be given only to De Beers. When mines were already exhausted why everyone is rushing into Nallamala for diamonds and gold? Where are they? How in post-independent India, when we can send our own satellites, explode our own atomic and thermo-nuclear weapons, make our nuclear submarines, none can find these resources and only De Beers found it in 1990?

So, where is the treasure?

During the battle of Talikota when the front line Vijayanagara armies were defeated, the backup army under the Commander in Chief Tirumala Raya was kept across the river Krishna, who decided to save the wealth of the kingdom rather than fight the battle from left flank. What Tirumala Raya carried was only guessable and exaggerated by many and made legendary by some others. It was estimated that on 7,000 elephants and 30,000 horses the wealth of Vijayanagara Kingdom was carried and with this wealth Tirumala Raya vanished into the dense jungles of Nallamala.

He resurfaced after six months took back Vijayanagara and then shifted the capital to Penugonda garrison. What he carried on these many horses and elephants is believed to be diamonds and gold mined in these kimberlite mines before they got exhausted by the time the British came. (Around 1835 when British soldiers sacked Amaravati near Guntur, they carried on 7,000 horses the gold that was removed from the buildings of this capital city.)

Since that time of Tirumala Raya’s movement with wealth untill now, thousands of treasure hunting parties tried to locate this wealth. According to one estimate around 1980 there were 125 full time treasure-hunting parties to find this wealth. And part time treasure-hunting parties must be ten times that number. Many temples around these Nallamala forests were destroyed and uprooted; dated thousands of years old and were real cultural treasures. Close to 125 to 150 people including a French treasure hunting party were killed in the process of finding the treasure in these Nallamala forest areas. So the then Government of India under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi restricted all human entry into the jungle areas except for religious tourism.

Even today many temples are uprooted and destroyed by many Indians in these Nallamala areas; while Archeology departments of state and center are resource-less and powerless to stop these greedy Indians who at times do these things with full backing of politicians. Regarding gold in these forests there was an estimate of a mining engineer who studied the Sri Sailam temple (Jyotirlingakshethra) surroundings and found that there was close to 2,500 tons of gold buried under the Temple premises. After this the state government banned all night travel in and out of Sri Sailam temple ghat road. This is what the western MNCs are aiming to dig out and take out of India.

Is it a coincidence that now every diamond mining company is back with renewed force into India to clear and decimate these Nallamala jungles in search of another Kohinoor or Hope or dozens of crown jewels and many ordinary diamonds? These ordinary diamonds are needed as they were needed during Second World War for manufacturing of jet engines, high temperature and high velocity war heads etc or in oil drilling industry.

Recently both state and central governments have become concerned about the protection of wildlife in the Nallamala forests. Now it is hard to understand how for thousands of years the human dwellings in the Nallamala ranges were never a problem to any habitat and how now they suddenly became. And how successive governments decided the only way to solve this problem of wild life protection is to evict all tribals who go by the community name CHENCHUS.

The Chenchus themselves may not be fully aware of the presence of Kali (Chenchu Lakshmi) in Nallamalais. They sleepwalk on her lap blissfully. MNCs Operated Destruction Of India

Government of India collects many statistics every year on everything and anything except on the displaced people from the resource rich forests or river banks or fertile lands. None in India in government circles have any figure for the number of people that have been or are being displaced by big developmental projects or sacrificed on the altar of Developmental Mantra by every national government.

Where do these displaced people go?

Eventually they end up in slums of urban centers on government lands or on disputed lands. They become vote bank for urban political parties. In most cases once the land title is allotted these slum dwellers are uprooted from these slums so that big corporation can build shopping malls or apartment complexes for the development of the nation.

Various courts in India including the Supreme Court are either silent on this human tragedy of forcible displacement or in rarest cases sided with the government and big MNCs in pursuing their agendas. In many cases even if there were no environmental clearances for such huge ecology damaging projects like Tehri Dam or Tata and POSOCO or Vedanta, still they went ahead grabbing the lands of poor and destroying the ecology for MNC interests.

It would appear as though these problems are just the result of bad management, planning and a general lack of oversight and holistic perspective. However true that maybe it is just the partial truth. Upon a closer observation infact one would find that these problems are not the result of mis-management, instead they are the results of a very systematic and strategically charted out policies in motion through a very long time.

Most of these above mentioned displaced people are from virgin forests from where coal to diamonds, rare earth metals to gold could be hauled out at throw away prices, which would be used to make high technology cutting edge products again to be sold to India at 10,000 times more profit than the actual cost of the materials/products hauled out.

MNCs want these tribal Indians to go away from their resource rich lands sometime like yesterday. But they are afraid just like the East India Company, that such evacuation (read rehabilitation) may create revolt among people. To avoid such inconvenience MNCs are now using the very democratically elected governments to do the eviction of population in the guise of protection of wildlife and sustainable development.

A massive such eviction is taking place in the State of Andhra Pradesh from the virgin forests of Nallamala range for the exclusive benefits of De Beers, a diamond mining corporation that wants the kimberlite or diamonds from the forest. But that is not the only thing De Beers is after. What De Beers is after is the buried wealth of Vijayanagara Empire to be hauled permanently into western fold.

The efforts of De Beers started at least 13 years ago when it was told to us that “they realized the massive diamond, gold and granite deposits in Mehaboob Nagar and Kurnool districts of Andhra Pradesh”. These deposits are spread under the thick jungles of Nallamala Forests. These forests needed to be cleared first for the diamond mining or De Beers should have to resort to the latest technology called horizontal drilling under the forests.

Now here comes the kicker. East India Companies when they ruled India tried to locate these kimberlite mines and declared that they were all exhausted and thus shifted their focus to South Africa. In South Africa they found diamonds and set up African gold and diamond mining companies under the ruthless exploitative ownership of Openheimers, who were one of the owners of the East India Companies. It is these Nallamala diamond mines that were the source of the riches of all the kingdoms of India including the Vijayanagara Kingdom, which at its height sold diamonds on streets not in carats but in kilograms. This fact was recorded by Portuguese, Russian, French and other chroniclers who had business and diplomatic ties with Vijayanagara kingdom. Every crown jewel of every European kingdom in those days came from India and from these mines along the banks of Krishna or Tungabhadra rivers.

In the year 1600 East India Company was formed and given exclusive right to trade with India and South East Asia by the British Monarchy under the concept of Free Trade and Globalization. It was also given the right to civilize India. In the year 1965 the Club of Rome (top industrial houses-real owners of EICs or MNCs) divided the world in 10 economic segments and gave unbridled authority to ruthlessly exploit Segment 9 (India belongs to this segment 9), a group of mineral (diamond, gold, uranium, life saving medicinal plants, organic food and drinking water) oil and natural gas rich South East Asian nations consisting one third of the population of the world- under liberalization (liberalize domestic economy to globalize its owners) and privatization (privatize so that Free Trade can further control domestic economy via global owners) to a group of MNCs.

Commenting on the mercantile political economy, Mayer Rothschild (one of the owners of the East India Company) once made a historic comment which is resoundingly true even after centuries – “give me the control of the currency of any nation and I care not who rules it…”

Liberalization and Privatization were the tools of the mercantile world in the long history of 400 year struggle to dominate resource rich Asia in general and India in particular. Since the beginning of liberalization of Indian economy for the supposed ‘development’ of India many Indians within the border of India became second-class citizens or non-citizens in their own native lands, country and cultural settings. They became the Helots of India, a derogatory term used by the Romans to indicate non-Romans in their country, intermediate in status between slaves and citizens. However still for whose sake is this development, is still not yet answered as it is tacitly understood that it is for the western countries to continue their geopolitical fight with their yester year cold war adversaries.

It wouldn’t be farfetched to say that in the name of development India is now run only for the profit maximization of giant western Multinational Corporations (MNCs) which are in their latest avatar from the erstwhile East India Companies (EICs). In fact all the owners of current MNCs are the grand children of the previous East India Companies, in lineage, spirit, methods, tactics and business policies (read Business Intelligence).

Our Perception of Leadership Needs to Change If We are to Change the World

When we think of world leaders, what often comes to mind?

According to Forbes, the top ten qualities of good leaders are honesty, delegation, communication, confidence, commitment, positive attitude, creativity, intuition, inspirational, and approachable. That is quite a list and it's hard to knock any of the aforementioned qualities, as they are all honorable attributes to impart upon any leader.

However, when we think of our leaders today, would we use any of those characteristics to describe them?

While those traits might apply to some leaders, I would strongly argue that most people would have a lot harsher comments to throw around when trying to describe our so-called "leaders," especially by those who have started to wake up.

Looking at the chaotic nature of today's society and the obvious inequalities that stick out like a sore thumb, it seems our world leaders are more clearly defined by terms such as greedy, power hungry, criminal, psychopathic, manipulative, and are overall parasitical in their nature.

Obviously this is a blanket statement that doesn't apply to every single person, as there as many honorable leaders out there, but when we think of our leaders as a whole in areas such as government, banking, entertainment, or big business, it's hard not to come to such negative conclusions.

The destructive actions of these poor leaders can be seen in many different ways such as the flawed design of money, the bias of media, the corruption of government, the looting of big business, the obfuscation of science, the obstruction of history, and the list could go on and on.

Things don't happen by accident either; there are always people behind actions and structural design.

It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the leaders of today are not out to lead us to a land of freedom and prosperity, but instead are out to further dominate and control life on this planet.

So what can we do?

The answer lies in re-framing our perception of leadership - and then putting those perceptions into action.

The Leader of Self

The seed to understanding what real leadership embodies is to first understand that above all, YOU are the leader of yourself.

This is usually a concept that is affiliated with anarchism, but in reality, this should be a cornerstone to all ideologies. Society functions best when citizens are strong enough to lead themselves.

When someone becomes the leader of Self, they are in charge of their own destiny for better or for worse, but at least they get to decide in the end. They don't need external leaders to take care of them or tell them what to do because they can take care of themselves.

They understand fundamentally that not everyone walks the same path, but we each walk our own path. In this regard, they know that the Self is the ultimate compass behind all the onion layers of consciousness.

When people lack a self-compass, they become like sheep; easy to herd by stronger forces that seek control. What many people don't realize is that today's world has made it far easier than ever for people to lead themselves.

For starters, the Internet has dropped an ever-expanding reservoir of knowledge into the palms of most the world at an almost instantaneous speed.

You can literally learn almost anything on the Internet if you really want to, such as how to,

-grow food

-build a car

-make a Rodin coil

This knowledge coupled with personal responsibility, allows individuals to build entire lives without much external help.

Not only can people learn to build in the physical world, but people can grow in spiritual understanding and intellect through the development of Self. We can grow our consciousness to immense heights and strengthen our intuition to decipher reality without the need of ever being told what it is.

Self will always be the core leader of any being.

Leaders of Wisdom, Not Power

Now just because someone becomes a leader of Self doesn't mean they are without the need for external leaders to help people along the journey.

In reality, it's very beneficial to have wiser elders who can accelerate our own learning curve, possibly taking our knowledge base and understanding to even higher levels than those who came before.

Wisdom and leadership are also crucial in providing structure.

We live in a collective reality, where numerous beings and forces interplay, so thinking one is an isolated being would be naïve. In order for life to flourish in any type of balance there must be understandings and structure among the collective. This allows us all to navigate freely without constantly getting in each other's way.

Just look at kids who are raised with poor role models and support systems compared to those kids that are, and we can see the importance of structure and support.

There will always be some vertical hierarchy/structure to society, and if we implement it properly, it can ascend humanity.

The problem today is that we look at our leaders in the wrong ways. Our leaders today have become symbols of power, wealth, beauty, and supreme intellect. We look at them almost as gods or rulers, instead of leaders.

I am not implying that being rich, pretty, smart, or powerful is a bad thing, but when you're a symbolic image that lacks the real substance of wisdom and action beneath the surface, then it's highly dangerous for society to embrace these leaders.

A true leader nudges you on a path of self-discovery, letting you figure out the answer to the problem yourself, and does not aim to exercise control over you, telling you what to do and where to go.

That is a master, and masters are not leaders.

Masters aim to control you and influence you for their own gains; leaders push societies in directions that the people want for the people's benefit. They give us the power to lead ourselves and provide words of wisdom along our journey.

But it is never a journey of their choosing, it is our journey and they are only aids.

We might not like those words at times, but a true leader speaks in truth no matter the form. While true leaders might have power and make important decisions, this is power that people want them to have.

The people voluntarily bestow power upon these leaders not because they are afraid or need rulers, but because of the wisdom of this leader, which has been earned over time and is trusted as a strong voice in society.

The leader never took the position by force, they earned it and the people bestowed it upon them. It's like a king who is a direct symbolic representation of the will of the people.

It can be a positive symbol if understood correctly.

When we think about our leaders today, don't think you have to choose one because you know that you can lead yourself and community. At the same time, never be afraid to listen to those who have proven themselves worthy of wisdom, because sometimes they can accelerate your own growth.

Leaders are flawed like us, but the truly enlightened ones have wisdom to transcend these imperfections into an ultimate service of love and light. It would be foolish for us not to listen to them as their light can benefit us all.

However, in the end, you must ultimately be able to shine from within. You are a star and you can manifest your own light. Through this manifestation, your example will naturally lead others to their own path of self-discovery.

This is the seed of true leadership...

Intelligence Beyond Thought

In 1980 Indian spiritual philosopher J. Krishnamurti met with physicist David Bohm to talk about “insight, illusion, awakening, transcendence, renewal, morality, the temporal, and the spiritual.” Their conversations are captured in The Ending of Time: Where Philosophy and Physics Meet.

In part of their discussions, Krishnamurti and Bohm explore the existence of an intelligence that transcends thought. For Krishnamurti, thought has a basis in our physical being and is “born out of the image of what has been accumulated.” This accumulation occurs throughout our lifetime — or lifetimes — and results in a habitual movement of the mind between the extreme poles of the particular (personal) and the general (universal).

In order to break free of the cycle of accumulation, we first have to recognize that our thought patterns, or habits, exist. But that may not be enough. We also need to be able to stop the continual movements. This requires intelligence, but a form of intelligence very different from what we know as “ordinary intelligence.”

Krishnamurti suggests that this intelligence is related to love. Not the romantic or physical love that you experience when you have a crush on someone, but a love that is beyond the human realm. This ‘intelligent’ love is not personal, but it is also not general. It encompasses both of those and transcends them. It is “light”.

This type of love can break down the barrier between our perceptions and the Truth of reality, a wall that we build higher and wider with every habitual thought. Or as Krishnamurti puts it, “The wall is this movement. So when this movement ends, that quality of intelligence, love and so on, is there.”

Later in their conversations, Krishnamurti and Bohm discuss why it’s so difficult to become aware of that wall and break it down. Even if we notice one of our patterns and are able to let go of it, our mind will soon latch onto another one. We may do this to protect ourselves or because we don’t care. There could be many reasons for always putting another brick in the wall.

Bohm suggests that we get stuck in this “groove” because we impart significance to thoughts, some more significance than others: “Because this knowledge seems to have a tremendous value beyond all other values, it makes the mind stick to that. It seems the most important thing in the world (…) Knowledge stupefies the mind.”

Once knowledge is given importance, a strong defensive mechanism is put in place to prevent the mind from seeing that its divisiveness is destructive, to resist the flowering of intelligence and to reinforce our illusions.

In the end, says Bohm, “This knowledge creates the me.” That illusion of a self masquerades as a separate entity, “a real being”, whereas it really resides in knowledge itself.
